Dilemma

OH NO... Look. My sock pal sock 1 being blocked the only problem when I got it wet it stretched even more!!! As if these socks needed more stretch. The problem major is they're too big.. I'm sooooooooo upset. They were supposed to be 10.25 inches long I can't scrinch them up enough. I scrinched and scrinched but the smallest I could get was 11 inches. And I'm not feeling them. Though they're not for me I'm so upset with how they're turning out. What should I do? Should I rip them out and redo them trying to figure out how far I was when I started the heel? This is not an easy pattern to do that with BTW. Or should I rip them out completely and start over. The yarn isn't that great, I should say, it's soft and all but splits just looking at it. With only 2 weeks left arugh! So what am I supposed to do? I've got one set of the rounds complete on the 2nd sock...Sound I just forget it and start something else? HELP

I say leave them. Are they wool or cotton? Will they shrink at all with multiple washings? 11 inches vs. 10.25 inches isn't THAT far off. It'll give them shrinking room. They are lovely and obviously took lots of work. I think they will be fine.

i think they're superwash. 100% merino wool. it may shrink some, but i'm not sure about that. i'm not happy with it.

ummmm, i say what the heck right? leave them! you have been busting your butt for so long on the "perfect" socks for your pal.. i know she will love what ever she gets! :)

Don't forget that you are measuring them flat. A persons foot is 3 dimentional. It will change on the persons foot.
Is there a person with the same size foot that you can try them on? (Even if it's a guy:0)Also a run through the dryer will cause some shrinkage and might help. Don't frog untill you have checked out all the options:0)
Ask me how I know this?

I say...send them to Megan, who has big feet and totally loves them :)

Well you will not be happy with them if you leave it like it is. I would run them through the dryer to make sure you are not going to rip for nothing. If that still leaves you too long and you have found someone to try them on and they are still too big. Then I would find a new home for them and make something else for your pal. Or put in a life line in the foot somewhere and rip back then rework the foot shorter. Hope it works out for you. And if you are worried about time e-mail your pal I am sure she will understand and not be upset if they are late!

First off, I think the sock is gorgeous no matter what. Secondly, abigail is right, the socks do fit differently when you put them on a 3-dim foot, plus I noticed my socks get smaller with time, ESPECIALLY the superwash. My lorna's shrunk a good few inches the first time through the wash. With all that said,if you're not happy you're not happy, and if you need to rip them out the get there, more power to ya! I know you'll get it done!

I say leave them as well. I think that there will be some minor stretching with the 3-d of the foot! Plus, the recipient will still appreciate it even if they're slightly big. jeniferknits.blogdrive.com

I say that you should leave it like it is. Go with the suggestions of the others out here and run it through the dryer once. Also, let someone try them on. I would if I was there!! I would hate for you to frog it when you've done so much work! They look so pretty!! Just keep plugging along with the other one.

But after saying all that, I know you and you'll want to be happy and I know how you are that you won't be happy until you know that your sockpal will be happy and we won't know that until you finish the other one and mail them off!!

Go for it and leave 'em big! I'm sure they will shrink with time. Be brave, be very brave. Love you!!!

I think they look great! And I agree that fit is hard to gauge just on length alone. Do you know anyone with the same size foot as your pal who can try it on? Even if they end up being a little big, that can still be okay. I have some socks that are big and I wear with some of my shoes that are also too big and some socks that are too small that I wear with other shoes. It's all good!

Your sock is beautiful. I would leave it and just be sure to knit the second one as long. Then wash and dry them, like the others suggested. I'd rather have socks that were too big than too small!

Just leave it. They will either shrink or find a foot their size! :-)
