A wintery day.

This past weekend I went on a knitting retreat with my LYS. We went to Autumn House Farm. I talked a little bit about it on my other blog. I have a flickr set with some photos if you're interested. Aside from the ones I am showing you here. Some of my photos didn't turn out something with my camera hiccuping. We got to get up close and personal with the sheep and learned how they care for them (the industry side of it) We also got to shop at the store. We also met with a weaver who works there also She designs some beautiful things. I had her card and all that info ready to share but I'm not sure what happened to it. (I'll look for it)
We had a lot of fun. (well i did that's for sure)

While there I finished my Tilted Duster. I used the called for Berroco Peruvia and I love the yarn . it's super soft and knits beautifully. The pattern said i would need around 9 skeins but really I only used 8. so that's a good thing. I found some ceramic buttons at joann's for the sweater. I blocked the sweater and it was finally dry this afternoon so I dragged my DH outside for a photo op! (it was a tad cold) I'll be taking it in to the store to stay for a while. I'm sure the more people look and feel that sweater the more will want to make it.
Now I'm on to my Christmas presents. I'm currently working on some Star Wars Amigurumi's. Starting with Princess Leia. off to work!

Name this photo!

I've been trying to post a blog for the past couple of days and I keep getting distracted!
Yesterday while I was finishing up the 2nd of the 2 stockings I made for a lady at church, Simba started playing with some of the string that was hanging around waiting to be sewn in. So i stopped knitting and started playing with him. And snapping some photos b/c it was really funny! and I came up with this fun photo. and it says something so I'd like to know what do you think it says?

My Veteran

In honor of Veterans day my DH got all dressed up and went with the VFW to honor the vets who weren't able to come home. They did a nice ceremony.
It was rather chilly here this AM so we were all bundled up. Then we went out for lunch.
so all in all it was a really slow and relaxing day.
well for the most part. the girls have been a little stir crazy lately. supposedly this weekend it's going to be nice out so maybe we can get them to play outside. WAIT a min. This weekend is my LYS's knitting get away YIPPIE! I'm not even going to be around. I'm sooo looking forward to that!
oh hopefully my DH will be able to get the girls outside for a while so that they run off some steam. If it's not too bad out tomorrow I'll try to send them out and on Thursday.
whoo hoo this weekend is coming fast and I'm super duper excited!

A quick look back

This is what my month looked like. Very busy and I've neglected this blog again.
Lately I've been knitting baby items and listening to a few books on CD. It helps to get things done faster.
I'm anxiously awaiting the elections on Tuesday. Mostly b/c I'm sick of all the commercials, junk mail and the phone calls. I'm sure I'm not the only one! But also I am looking forward to voting!
i hope everyone else also goes out and votes!

Hmm I've been away for a while and I'm trying to think of what to share with ya'll. Things have been busy around here. All last week I watched a friends kids while she worked. It was crazy around here. I'm going to use the money to get a new Ipod. my shuffle is just too small and doesn't hold all my music. I'd also like to be able to "see" what is playing and also see what genre I'm listening too. (not that i can't tell by listening)

Sunday we had our small group over and I made some Caramel turtle brownies. It's like heaven in a box! These puppies are sooo freakin good!
Sunday we also went to a baby shower. I knit a hat for the baby. it turned out really cute. (you can see photos on my other blog) I'm also working on another hat for another baby. I'm still trying to finish up a few things so I can start Christmas presents... sigh I'm such a procrastinator! well I've got to get knitting TTYL!

Stitch Markers

These stitch markers were inspired by the Twilight Saga books. The first row is just inspired by the books themselves. The secon is from Bella's dream talking "it's too green" and the last row is inspired by Edward himself. (his eyes and room from the books) I'm going to put them up at my etsy store. I've got to make some cute cards to attach them to first though. anyways what do you think?

Twilight Teaser

I can not wait to see this movie! it's actually coming out 11-21-08 not in Dec like it says at the end.
I heart Edward!

a contest

JC over at Garnfiti is having a Halloween Contest where you can win some fabulous HP inspired yarn. You get an entry for commenting and also for posting about it on your blog and if you make something Halloween related too. I'm off to ponder what to make.. sooo exciting. I've been thinking about re-reading the HP series. I just finished watching the Movies again and I'm anxiously waiting for the 6th movie.

on other not waiting news. I got a new George foreman. We've sorely been needing one. the one we had we got when we first got married (over 9 years ago) and the stuff was flaking off. We didn't use it much lately. So i bought a shiny new RED one.. pretty spiffy b/c it has different grill plates that you can change and do other things. There's a waffle iron, the traditional grill plate and a skillet plate that you can bake on. also there a little tabby that you move and it either tilts the grill forward or makes it level. Yes it's the highlight of my weekend.

LOL not really.

my september

Since I haven't been very good at uploading my project 365 photos to share with ya'll I thought I'd do a whole month at once for you to enjoy. If you go to flickr and check out the photos I describe them and what they are etc. I need to get back in the habit of posting daily to my blog, I've been such a slacker lately. well at blogging at least. I've been knitting a ton lately and I just found the next sweater I'm going to knit. I can't wait to get started... i just have to finish some projects first....
speaking of finishing I've got projects to knit! TTYL

Some knitting going on!

Saturday I finally finished those pac man mittens (rav link) i'd been working on for my brother since last year. I mailed them this morning so he should be getting his Christmas present within the week. Yeah I'm a super duper procrastinator! All I had to do was finish the power pellet I-cord. So i bit the bullet and finished. I hope he likes them. (and uses them)
After finishing (and the reason I quick finished) I started a traditional stocking for a lady from my church. Actually I'm making 2 of them one for her DIL and one for her Grandson. I'm actually further on the project from working on it on Sunday I just haven't uploaded the photo yet. I'm all nervous about it now.... sigh. I'm sure the yarn will soften up when I wash it. it's kinda stiff (and yucky) right now.
so what do you think?

a story to ponder

I found this story on Ravelry and thought I would share!

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her daughter, she asked, “Tell me what you see.”

“Carrots, eggs, and coffee,” she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.

The daughter then asked, “What does it mean, Mother?”

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity – boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

“Which are you?” she asked her daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?”

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.

When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

–Author Unknown

completely obsessed!

I am completely obsessed. There is no other way to explain it. I just finished (yesterday) reading the whole series for a 2nd time in a row.
I'm not sure about you but, when I'm in the car I do a lot of thinking. I got a notebook and started writing down what I've been pondering. I'm not sure why but the twilight series has me thinking.
So yesterday after taking the girls to awana and dropping off the redbox rentals I sat in the car and just wrote down every stray thought I was thinking. It was very cleaning.. so to speak.
It's not very often that a series of books or just a book hits me so hard that I love them so much.
Next I think I'll re-read Ted Dekker's Black, Red, and White series...
that's another series that hit me hard and got me thinking.

Finished, sent and received!

I spent the last 3 months or so knitting and praying for my SPSS2 partner. I was also writing up the pattern for these socks. I sent them off to my partner on Tuesday. I hope she likes them when she gets them. I didn't have time to block them so they're rough so to speak. I also sent a prayer book and a sock bag that I made. I always get nervous when I've sent a package. UGH.
Anyways I got my package in the mail today. It was a lovely package as you can see. The soap smells wonderful btw. I keep smelling it over and over. YUM! The stitch marker is sooo cute and the wash cloths are wonderful. I got sooo spoiled. The socks are the best colors, purple, green and brown. The pattern is great. I'm not sure what it is so I asked my partner.
I'm working on quite a few projects these days. I finally finished my reusable grocery tote. I started using the Elisa Nest Tote I modified the pattern a bit. I've decided that it's my fave bag that I've made so far. It's easily used for everything. I think if I make another I'll follow the Grrlfriend Market bag pattern (rav link). But that's b/c I like the way the bottom works.
anyways off to knit on the I-cord for my bro's Christmas present (last year's) I'm about halfway done! YIPPIE!

The Horror

As I looked out my back door Tuesday I gasped. To my horror my tomato support structure had fallen over. I ran out to my garden to see up close and fix the problem.
I had to trim/cut off about half of each plant. I harvested all the big tomatoes, most of them green. A couple of weeks ago I tried some fried green tomatoes and I didn't like them too much. It could have been the recipe I used. I've set the tomatoes on my window's ledge to ripen.
I was so upset I forgot to snap a photo of the horror, but I did remember to snap when I was done. I'm not sure if you can tell but the plants are really trimmed down now. I'm hoping it won't hurt the tomatoes still on the vines.
Today it rained on and off all day so my garden is getting good and watered. It was a good day to curl up and read. so that's what I did. Now i've got to go to the library and pick up some more books. Maybe tomorrow.

Let's not talk about it.

So sorry I've been absent lately. Things are going crazy! but I am alive. I've been posting every other day or so on my other blog. You can go over there and check it out occasionally and see what's going on. Not to mention I've also been on a no knitting only reading books marathon. But that seems to have passed now and I'm glad b/c I'd like to finish the projects I'm working on. I esp have to finish my swap socks before the 1st. I can do it I've only got the top of the legs to do. I'm not sure what's up with me lately. I've been kinda in a funk. Hopefully it will pass.
Today I had my SIL and BIL and niece over for dinner, it was nice. I made Roasted Caprese Spaghetti. It's a recipe from Rachel Ray's website. It's really good. I also made some bread to go along with it. Yum! I have some left over so I can have some this week too! YUM! I've found myself watching the Rachel Ray show a lot lately. It's pretty cool and the recipes she make always look delish. If you've never tried out her recipes or watched the show go ahead you'll be happy you did! (I'm not getting paid for this at all btw)
I'm off to knit!
